Tarac applies a ‘continual improvement’ approach to its resource efficiency, particularly in relation to water, energy and greenhouse gas impacts.
As a result of resource audits and investigations, several key improvement projects have been implemented.
Boiler efficiency has been improved by the addition of an automated system to monitor and optimise the combustion parameters in the boiler.
Tarac’s Nuriootpa Distillery received a significant upgrade in 2010 resulting in higher throughput at the highest quality export levels for its distilled grape alcohol, while at the same time effectively reducing electricity and natural gas use.
These projects were originally identified through an efficiency audit, organised through the Resource Efficiency Assistance Program [REAP], an initiative of the South Australian Government. These projects were then implemented with Federal Government funding assistance through the Re-tooling for Climate Change program.
Tarac continues to investigate and implement programs aimed at improving the efficient use of energy.
