Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC's) are present in most winery waste residuals due mainly to fermentation processes.  VOC's readily evaporate, contributing to depletion of the ozone layer and are known for toxic effects on human health.  Tarac's processing systems remove these VOC's.

Scientific studies have also determined that Tarac’s processes improve the speed and quality of composting of grape waste solids along with reduced odour potential.  A more readily compostable material will be less likely to produce methane during the process, thus reducing the potential for release of damaging greenhouse gasses (1g methane = 23g CO2).

These same studies also determined that Tarac’s processes reduce leachate release from composting of these solid wastes.  Leachates are potentially environmentally damaging liquids released during the composting process.
